私は今、英語の他に、ある国の言葉を夢中で学んでいます。それは「インドネシア語」です。
なぜ、Global Classroomを通じて世界中と英語で繋がれる私が、これほどまでにインドネシアという国に惹かれているのか。それは、この国の教育制度が、日本の私たちから見ると「規格外に変わっていて、そして圧倒的に未来を向いている」からです。
1. IT起業家が文科大臣に？「全国統一試験」をぶっ壊した改革
現在のインドネシア教育を語る上で欠かせないのが、2019年に教育文化研究技術大臣に就任したナディム・マカリム氏の存在です。彼は政治家でも官僚でもなく、なんと配車・決済アプリの世界的メガベンチャー「Gojek」の若き創業者でした。
彼が推し進める「Merdeka Belajar（自由な学び）」という教育改革の中で最も驚かれたのが、暗記偏重の「全国統一国家試験（UN）」を全廃したことでした。暗記ではなく、批判的思考力やキャラクターを評価するこの「引き算の改革」は、ICTで現場を変えようとする私にとって大きな勇気を与えてくれました。
2. 「多様性」は綺麗事じゃない。宗教教育の共存
インドネシアの国家標語は「Bhinneka Tunggal Ika（多様性の中の統一）」です。
公立学校の教室には、異なる宗教を信じる生徒たちが混在していますが、宗教教育の時間にはそれぞれの信仰を専門に学ぶ仕組みが整っています。異なるバックグラウンドを持つ人間が、どうすれば一つの教室で笑い合えるのか。彼らはそれを日々の学校生活の中で泥臭く実践しているのです。
3. だから私は、彼らの「生の声」を聴きに行く
革新的なテクノロジー志向と、多様性を真正面から受け止める人間臭い教育。この巨大なエネルギーのうねりを肌で感じるため、私はインドネシア語を学び始めました。英語というフィルターを通さず、彼らの母国語で「自由（Merdeka）」への熱量を語り合いたい。
来年、私はついにインドネシアの地を踏みます。画面越しに出会った多くの友人と直接ハグを交わし、現地の熱気を持ち帰ることが、日本の教育現場にも新しい風を吹き込むと確信しています。
Currently, besides English, I am enthusiastically learning another language: Indonesian.
Why am I so drawn to Indonesia, despite being able to connect with the world in English through Global Classroom? It is because their education system is, from our Japanese perspective, "unconventionally unique and overwhelmingly forward-looking."
1. An IT Entrepreneur as Minister? The Reform that Abolished National Exams
When discussing current Indonesian education, the presence of Nadiem Makarim, who became the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology in 2019, is indispensable. He was neither a politician nor a bureaucrat, but the young founder of "Gojek," the world-class ride-hailing and payment mega-venture.
Under his strong leadership, he pushed forward an education reform called "Merdeka Belajar (Freedom to Learn)." The most shocking move was the complete abolition of the rote-memorization-heavy National Examination (UN). Shifting from memorization to evaluating critical thinking and character, this drastic "reform by subtraction" gave me tremendous courage as I try to break down classroom walls with ICT.
2. Diversity is Not Just a Buzzword: The Coexistence of Religious Education
Indonesia's national motto is "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity)."
In public school classrooms, students of different religions study together. Amazingly, during religious education classes, they separate into different rooms to deeply learn their respective faiths. They are practicing how people with different backgrounds can smile together in one classroom through their daily school lives.
3. That Is Why I Am Going to Hear Their "Real Voices"
Innovative technology orientation combined with a deeply human education that embraces diversity head-on. To feel this massive surge of energy firsthand, I started learning Indonesian. I want to discuss their passion for "Merdeka (Freedom)" in their mother tongue, without the filter of English.
Next year, I will finally step on Indonesian soil. I am convinced that directly hugging the many friends I met through screens and bringing back the local enthusiasm will breathe new life into the Japanese educational field.
